MILESTONES AND MEMORIES. . .

MILESTONES. . . . .

Turning 90 is definitely a milestone.  Something changes in your perception of your life and it hits you like a ton of bricks.  No more pretending, no more preening when your friends tell you you look 60. . . .someone else is holding the camera and your face is everywhere.  They are lying...
you definitely have crossed the Rubicon!
It is the summer of 2012, and it has been wonderfully hectic--a passing parade of beloved faces.  Visits spaced out over the days...days when I have wondered if my energy would hold out.  But o the joy, the delight, the love. . .
For the first time ever I hired a party planner and set the date for the actual birthday party.  I decided to have it in my own house so I could display my art work.  I had been urged to have an art show, and this seemed to be the ideal plan.  I had paintings in every room, hand painted china on display, and my hand made quilts on all the beds, and I invited my friends to snoop.  It was a wonderful day!  My party girl designed collages from photos I had given her, and they were a big attraction.  She was impressed by my life story and made the theme of the day
"My Life in the Rockies" and that included an impossible creation of a birthday cake complete with mountain stream, pine trees and big rocks!!
Meanwhile, back in Colorado, my brother Dale is working on plans for a family reunion at Lake Tahoe.  This will be my siblings and their families coming to celebrate my "coming of age"!   It is set for the end of September..and is creeping up on us. I am excited!
This will be a gathering on the shores of Lake Tahoe....it is where my family came together for our 50th wedding anniversary; it is the scene of our family October Fest a few years ago. It is where my sister and I want to be. We will walk beneath the big pine trees along the shore and mingle, and reminisce and make memories again.
I feel SO celebrated, and supremely loved.  Betty's Journal

Please refresh my memory about what it means to cross the Rubicon.

It means going beyond the point of no return-and refers to Julius Caesar's crucial decision in his famous battle over Rome.
